As a business owner, you’re supposed to pick a niche and to figure out exactly who you serve. For that exercise I came up with 2 people I affectionately named Madison and Ian.
Madison is a professional with a capital P! She is driven, a perfectionist, in control and structured. She has finally admitted to herself that she does not like her corporate job. She craves creativity and flow. She wants to pursue that creative dream she always had. The question is – how can she let go of her iron grip on life?
Ian is always creating, in flow. Going from idea to idea. He is the scattered, genius artist. Completely in touch with himself, his needs and, his creativity. The trouble is that he has no focus. He’s flitting all over the place. Will the world ever receive the gift of viewing his talents?
And then I realized I am both. I have been both. I am in a constant swing state from Madison to Ian. We all have both inside us.
We are not just 1 type of person stuck in our ways. Sometimes I am really structured, I have a plan, and I stick to it! I am grateful for the proactive steps I am taking and I notice I am missing being in my flow. I miss being creative without an end goal in mind.
Other times, I am wandering around aimlessly in my little world of joys and creativity. Soon, I tend to notice that I crave some more structure…more direction, and discipline. I wish to take pointed action toward my dreams.
Neither state is wrong. I personally like to be on this swing. Noticing when it is time to swing toward the other state helps me feel aligned and centered. I can choose what state to be in.
So, are you a Madison or an Ian today? Do you need more accountability and structure in your life right now or do you feel the urge to let go, and be in a state of free flowing creativity?
As a Creativity Coach I can help you navigate this pendulum. Let me be your guide.
